Torchlight - Missy Higgins

One of our favourite Australian singer-songwriters here at LCM HQ is our next LCM featured artist the very talented Missy Higgins. Missy has just released a powerful new song called 'Torchlight' which will be featured in the Australian film 'Don't Tell'. ‘Don’t Tell’ is the story of a young woman who fought back after enduring sexual abuse at a prestigious private school. With a dogged and determined local lawyer by her side, they took on the powerful church that denied her abuse for over a decade. Based on true events that changed Australian child protection laws, ‘Don’t Tell’ is a poignant story about finding the courage to stand up, speak out and fight against injustice. https://youtu.be/EP4TvqIAUZ0

In the powerful piano ballad, Missy sings of the issues explored in the film: "Sometimes evil is a quiet town where nobody wants to hear your truth/ and nobody wants to believe you." The song is accompanied by a simple video of Missy on stage in the empty Toowoomba Empire Theatre shot by the film's director Tori Garrett.

"I feel so privileged to have been a part of this project. Reading the script for Don't Tell was a powerful experience. It's such an emotional, inspiring story that when it came time to write the song, it came really easily. It's simply a beautiful film and the performances are just outstanding," Missy said.

It isn't the first time Missy has been moved by a real-life cause to create music. Last year she released the poignant song Oh Canada inspired by Alan Kurdi, the three-year-old Syrian refugee whose body washed up on a Turkish beach after fleeing Syria for Canada with his family. 'Don't Tell' starring Rachel Griffiths and Jack Thompson will hit cinemas on May 18.
