Reach Out, I'll Be There - Lamont Dozier ft Jo Harman
We are thrilled today to have the songwriting legend Lamont Dozier as our next LCM featured artist. I'm a massive Motown music fan, so this a real treat. Lamont has co-written and produced over fifty #1 hits for Motown and related artists. Most famously as part of the songwriting team Holland-Dozier-Holland, the songwriting and production team responsible for much of the Motown sound and numerous hit records by artists such as Martha and the Vandellas, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops, The Isley Brothers and many other greats. Along with Brian Holland, Lamont served as the team's musical arranger and producer, while Eddie Holland concentrated mainly on lyrics and vocal production. Together with the Holland Brothers, Dozier followed his work for Motown Records as founder and owner of Invictus Records and Hot Wax Records, producing top-charting hits for acts Freda Payne, Honey Cone, Chairmen of the Board, and 100 Proof Aged in Soul. Our LCM #SongOfTheDay is a beautiful re-working of ‘Reach Out, I’ll Be There’ ft the very talented Jo Harman. It was originally famously recorded by the Four Tops.
The song will be re-released by co-writer Lamont and completely repackaged as an gospel fuelled acoustic tune. The single will appear as a bonus track on Lamont Dozier’s upcoming album 'Reimagination' due for release in early spring. Duetting on the record is award winning singer/songstress Jo Harman. The singer, whose recent successful album, 'People We Become', recorded in Nashville, includes a cameo from soul superstar Michael McDonald on the BBC Radio 2 play-listed track, 'When We Were Young'.
Lamont’s album, 'Reimagination', is an acoustic re-interpretation of some of his most famed compositions. The album includes cameo appearances from many industry notables such as Gregory Porter, Sir Cliff Richard, Graham Nash, Todd Rundgren, Rumerand and more is followed in June by a first ever solo UK tour for this legendary figure from the world of Motown. The tour will be an evening of unplugged acoustic backing to Lamont’s own versions of these iconic songs with music direction by bandleader/producer Fred Mollin. Lamont will be telling the stories behind these classic songs. Jo Harman will be a featured addition to the performances.
Lamont on the album: 'It's a brilliant idea that (producer) Fred Mollin came up with to reclaim these songs in this fashion and we're just having a ball with it. I'm sure Motown fans will dig the new interpretations just as much as we all are here'
Duet partner Jo Harman adds: 'For me, two major pillars of modern music are The Beatles and Motown. To play even a small part in this, well, historic record is genuinely mind blowing for me. It's such a total honour to be involved'.
