Ta-Ra - Minnie Birch
With a critically acclaimed second album 'Tethered' recently released at a sell-out launch in London, our next LCM featured artist is the wonderful Hemel Hempstead based singer-songwriter Minnie Birch. We have been a big fan of Minnie's music for a while and we were delighted when she won our very first LCM favourite new artist award in May 2015. But it is not just us that are fans of Minnie, she has also been listed on Buzzfeed’s top 10 singer-songwriters to discover. As a taster of the new album our LCM #TrackOfTheDay is the beautiful 'Ta-Ra'.
Musically Minnie has been playing in a band of some sort since her older sister first introduced her to Nirvana. Minnie Birch was what was born out of finding it hard to keep a band together when everyone grew up, moved away, went to uni, fell in love and didn't have as much time to be in a band with her anymore.
Like some kind of superhero musician, Emily performs across the UK and mainland Europe. She also manages to fit into her busy schedule a number of other very worthwhile projects.
Minnie released her EP 'Settled' in 2013 produced by George Schilling. George has also produced music from artists such as Gabrielle, New Radicals, The Corrs, Blur, Texas, Teenage Fanclub, Primal Scream, Oasis, Mike Oldfield, Eternal, Boy George, James Brown, Mark Almond, Bernard Butler and The Fall. Minnie is also a firm Folkstock favourite and she has recorded songs for two Folkstock Record releases, The Christmas Present (2013) and The F-Spot Femme Fatales 'Castles' (2015).
All the hard works has paid off as Minnie has had some great opportunities including supporting Joan Armatrading and She Makes War. Minnie has also played at an ever increasing number of festivals including Folkstock and Standon Calling.
Recently radio play has included a host of local radio stations, Blues and Roots Radio, BBC Introducing and one of our favourite Minnie songs 'Glitter' has been played on BBC Radio 2.
Minnie released her beautiful debut album 'Floundering' in June 2015, which was chosen as album of the week by the very respected FATEA. Her second album 'Tethered; was released this month and it's already getting a lots of attention.
