We travel today to Cleveland, Ohio meet the excellent US six-piece Rock band ‘Welshly Arms’. The band lacing daring alternative rock with gospel-size scope and rich bluesy heart. The band feature Sam Getz [lead vocals, guitar], Brett Lindemann [keys], Jimmy Weaver [bass], Mikey Gould [drums], Bri Bryant [vocals] and Jon Bryant [vocals] Our featured track today is the powerful ‘Legendary’ taken from their 2018 debut album ‘No Place Is Home’ released via Republic Records in May. If you like Kaleo and Hozier, you could really like this one too.

Since 2013, Welshly Arms have canvased nearly every corner of the globe spurned along by a bevy of seismic and show-stopping songs. Their 2017 EP, ‘Legendary’, boasted the ubiquitous title track, “Legendary.” To date, it has earned gold certifications in Germany and Switzerland, cracked over 47 million Spotify streams in under two years, received 1.5 million Shazams, and soared to Top 15 at Alternative Radio. Described as ‘stripped down harmony-laden classic Folk and Americana’ our next LCM featured artists are the great Illinois based acoustic trio of Micah Walk, Elizabeth Eckert and Dave Littrell better known collectively as The Deep Hollow. ‘Real Life’ is new single taken from their recently released album ‘Weary Traveler’.

Beginning with a win in the American Songwriter magazine songwriting contest in 2014 to a well-produced Kickstarter-launched album in 2015 that reached number three on the Folk DJ charts in early 2016, the terrific threesome continues to move forward. September saw the release of their second album ‘Weary Traveler’.

Half Hearted - Post Monroe

LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Half Hearted’ - Post Monroe

Nashville based ‘Post Monroe’ are a country duo that blends two authentic female voices and personalities. Comprised of Whitney Duncan and Ashlee Hewitt, the duo is influenced by a vast array of sounds from classic country and rock ‘n roll to bluegrass. Our LCM featured track today is ‘Half Hearted’ taken from their 2016 self titled debut EP.

Post Monroe was named Rolling Stone Country’s “10 Artists You Need To Know” and made their Grand Ole Opry debut on June 18th. They are also part of CMT’s ‘Next Women of Country’ for 2017.

Post Monroe originally started as a trio but Shelby McLeod (seen above) left the band in October last year to pursue a solo career.

Our next LCM featured artist LA based Dominique Pruitt comes from a rich musical family. Her father Larry Brown once played in The Association and Smothers Brothers before joining Engelbert Humperdinck in the ‘80s, where he met and forged a romantic relationship with her mother, singer Anne-Marie Brown (The Babys, Jon Waite). Dominique has just released her wonderful new comeback single ‘High In The Valley’. It’s a retro ‘Nancy Sinatra’ infused blend of rockabilly and pop, paying homage to the sounds of her youth, but with a unique fresh twist. It’s Dominique’s first release in five years

“I had written down that song title a few years ago. It was such a part of me at one point to feel like I was trapped in this hopelessness of being so close to what you want in a way but so far away,” Dominique comments about the song, which was written with Jasmine Ash, Joseph Holiday and Kenny Fleetwood. Amidst the flecks of cracked motel paint and peeling wallpaper, Dominique finds herself in her very own Spaghetti Western.

Dominique first recorded three demos of her father’s old songs in 2009, and in 2011 her music fell into the right hands and she was ultimately signed to Merovee Records. Her Dave Darling (Tom Waits, Brian Setzer) produced EP ‘To Win Your Love’ was released in 2013, and while she had her debut full-length all ready to go after working with him, things didn’t exactly feel right anymore and the record was shelved. The label closed soon after and she was left wandering around to find her next move.

“High in the Valley” is a smokey concoction of forlorn spirits caught in grungy dive bars in nowhere middle America, the dust of the open road crawling along the floor and the neons piercing the crowd’s dilated pupils. Her spirit and heart are on full display, culled together with remarkable musical depth. “I love Wanda Jackson,” she says. “I went head over heels the first time I heard her.”

Dominique evokes imagery of vintage showgirls and the mystique of burlesque into her music and performances, beckoning the listener into a world long gone. The accompanying visual, directed by Dana Boulos and styled by Shana Anderson, is inspired by fame French photographer Guy Bourdin. The aesthetic is classic without being pretentious, accessible but universal, colorful but not overexposed.

Our next LCM featured artist South African born singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov has been travelling all his life but currently calls Colorado home. His songs share a masterful quality which tell a story of the miles and landscapes, and the search for a sense of place.

Our featured track is the beautiful ‘San Luis’ taken from his recently released album ‘Evening Machines’.Gregory’s songs are deep lyrical masterpieces, with hints of his influences Leonard Cohen and Bruce Springsteen.

No Roots - Alice Merton

We have a very catchy song today to get your blood pumping and toes tapping. The very talented rising star and award winning singer-songwriter Alice Merton is very well traveled. She was born in Germany and raised in Canada and England. The very aptly named ‘No Roots’ is the title track of her debut EP released back in 2016. We dedicate it to all travelling globe-trotting musicians and anyone who ‘likes digging holes and burying things inside them’ #Blacklist

Growing up around the world Alice was as influenced by other cultures as much her own transience. Alice’s absorption of different styles helped create her distinctive sound. As a child, she learned classical piano and singing while in Canada. When Alice was a teenager, her family moved to Germany, where she would pick up the guitar and write her first song. While in Germany, she also studied at the Mannheim conservatory of music. Later, the family would relocate again, this time to England. Alice won the 2018 EBBA award.

LCM Song Of The Day: ‘Carry On’ - Ruelle (ft. Fleurie)

We travel today to Nashville meet Margaret "Maggie" Eckford better known by her stage name ‘Ruelle’. Our chosen song is the beautiful ‘Carry On’ also featuring US singer-songwriter Fleurie. This stunning new video was filmed in Iceland.

Maggie comments about the song “I wanted to create something that sheds light on the goodness of humanity in the midst of what seems like a lot of darkness. I have always believed that people in their ugliest, most hateful states have all been wounded in some way, at some point in their lives. I wanted to portray the common threads in humanity: We all feel pain. We all believe in something...and that more than ever, we should be coming together to lift one another up, not tearing each other down. It’s about the beauty of people coming together regardless of their differences”.

Maggie’s music is a wonderful blend of electronic pop and has been used widely on US television series including ‘Shadowhunters’ and The ‘Shannara Chronicles’ themes and placements in ‘Arrow’, ‘Pretty Little Liars’, ‘Quantico’, ‘The Vampire Diaries’, ‘The Walking Dead’ and many more.

She grew up in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and attended music school in Sydney, Australia. She adopted the French word "Ruelle" as her stage name because she liked how it gave off a sense of darkness and mystery and how it had multiple meanings including "chamber" and "wolf".

We first featured Max’s music back in 2016 after the release of his excellent self titled debut album. Now Max is back with a new EP of acoustic demos entitled ‘Notes from California’. Our LCM featured track today is the first single, the atmospheric and wonderful ‘LA Rain’

Max Jury is a young singer-songwriter from Des Moines, Iowa. His music is almost vintage Laurel Canyon country-soul with at times touches of Hozier. A graduate of Berklee School of Music, Max grew up listening to all sorts of music including country, soul, gospel and rock ‘n’ roll. This fusion of musical styles coupled with excellent production has lead to his debut album. Max is a self confessed Gram Parsons geek who has turned his obsession into one of the most exciting new talents since those heady days of the Byrds, the Burrito Brothers and Gram infused Rolling Stones. His songs are effortless examples of heartfelt, country tinged, beautifully sung and perfectly executed American music at its finest.

Max has now London based and is currently on tour with Tom Odell.

With a high anticipated forthcoming 13th album set for release in early February our next LCM featured artist is the very talented Tennessee based singer-songwriter Sean McConnell. One of the highlight of the new album and the first single is the beautiful title track ‘Secondhand Smoke’. It was also recently included in a weekly top list of Rolling Stone’s Best new Country/Americana Songs.

'Secondhand Smoke' is a 13-song cohesive collection of modern folk music asking provocative questions about how we become who we are, what and whom we love, and the growth, pain, and freedom that come with accepting that some answers might elude us forever. “The older I get, the more I find that is what it’s all about––that there is no way to answer it all,” Sean comments. “Being comfortable with mystery is a positive thing in all aspects of our lives. I definitely explore that in these songs.”

We take a trip to Nashville to meet our next LCM featured duo Jill Andrews and Peter Groenwald better known collectively as the Hush Kids. The Hush Kids is a friendship that was founded on music. It began long before the partnership had a name, when two beloved Nashville artists with impressive solo careers were put together by their publishers to write songs for other people. In time however they discovered they had been writing for themselves all along.

A gifted composer, producer, and musician Peter has toured extensively and shared the stage with artists such as The Civil Wars, Andrew Belle, and John Mayer. Jill, a founding member of the alt-country favorite ‘The Everybodyfields’, has performed alongside The Avett Brothers, Willie Nelson, and Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors and secured television placements that include Greys Anatomy, American Idol and Nashville.

Released on the 26th October the Hush Kids self-titled debut album journeys across the unexpected, the strangeness of love rather than the sweetness, the beauty of the world rather than the bullshit. Guided by writer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Ian Fitchuk and joined by some of Nashville’s most sought-after musicians, the record pairs the effortless, addictive pop sensibility of The Carpenters with the dusty, atmospheric, desert landscape of Robert Plant and Allison’s Krauss’ Americana classic, “Raising Sand.”

LCM #SongOfTheDay: ‘Quoting Sagan’ - James Edwyn and The Borrowed Band

Glasgow sextet James Edwyn & the Borrowed Band began in 2013, their formation the result of a series of unlikely coincidences. The band's music is a mix of alt-country, indie/folk rock and roots orientated Americana. Our featured song today ‘Quoting Sagan’ is the third single from their highly acclaimed second album ‘High Fences’.

If you would like to see the band live they will be performing at the FATEA 30th birthday bash in Bournemouth on Saturday followed by a gig at The Slaughtered Lamb in London on Sunday.

Their first album ‘The Tower’ was released in 2014 through the band’s own label, ‘Dead Records Collective’. The album was well received, achieving significant airplay and positive reviews across a broad range of media.

’High Fences’, the band’s 2017 follow up to The Tower, sees a big leap forward for the band. With Grammy nominated and ARIA-winning engineer Adrian Breakspear (Sony Australia) on mixing duties, the 10-track L.P. captures a bigger, harder edged sound without the band losing their trademark focus on finely honed arrangement and melody. The band’s first two singles from the album, Passing San Ysidro and Pushing Statues have both enjoyed significant radio play across the BBC and other radio networks.

A wonderful live band, they have continued to move from strength to strength. Their second year on the festival circuit in 2017 saw them stepping up to a number of main stages and cementing their growing reputation as a formidable live act. Their two hometown shows of late 2017 were hugely successful, with a sold out single launch (Passing San Ysidro) in August and a sold out album launch as part of the Glasgow Americana festival. 2018 has started with a bang for the band, seeing the invited to showcase at Glasgow’s famous Celtic Connections festival and the UK Americana Music Association festival in London.

LCM #SongOfTheDay: ‘It Rains’ - Archie Faulkes

‘It Rains’ is the debut single from London singer-songwriter Archie Faulkes, who first rose to prominence under the moniker ‘Tenterhook’ in 2014. Archie will be headlining at the historic St. Pancras Old Church, London on the 12th November.

As ‘Tenterhook’ he enjoyed tearaway success over the course of two EPs, which spawned radio hits that led him to be featured as Zane Lowe’s Next Hype on Radio 1, while also receiving support from BBC 6Music and Radio X. He became a worldwide No.1 on Hype Machine, clocked up millions of plays on Spotify and completed a number of tours across the UK and Europe playing with the likes of Asgeir and Rhodes.

Regarding the new single Archie says, “I wrote ‘It Rains’ about a dying but once great relationship. All we do now is fight and get back together again; with the memories of the glory days being the only thing bringing us back to each other. The love is still there but I realise its no longer helping either of us, but rather taking over our days and nights with worry, anger and fear. It’s a love for things we did together and the feeling we gave each other, but not for the other person themselves. The song is the realisation of this but wanting to retreat to ‘our place’ and cling on for a few more days in the vague hope that we can regain an element of the past and not let us be washed away by the flood.”

We head to Nashville today to meet our next featured artist, singer-songwriter and guitarist Arielle. Originally from New Jersey and raised in California & Hawaii, Arielle is a big fan of music from the 60's and 70's and that really shines through in her own music. She has been compared to Joni Mitchell and Jeff Beck among many others. Our LCM ‘Song Of The Day’ the wonderful ‘Just Another Reason’, a co-write with Sydney Maxine and Kris Bergsnes, is taken from her latest EP ‘Mind Lion’.

Arielle is currently working on a brand new 10 song ‘Classic Folk Rock’ album called ‘Suspension/Dimension’ which she is crowdfunding. She has reached her initial target, but if you would like to take part the link is below for you. The campaign ends today.

The very impressive Lucy is a young Country singer-songwriter from Norwich, who will be launching her new EP ‘Dear Walter’ with a headline band show at The Norwich Art Centre on October 31st. We really like this live stripped version of ‘In Common’ filmed by James Hubbard which is taken from the new EP. The song is Lucy’s tribute to the great Johnny Cash.

With heartfelt lyrics and Country undertones, Lucy focuses on telling you the unadulterated truth about a girl who was born and raised in a town not built for Country music. Inspired by the likes of Johnny Cash, Lucy's understated guitar rhythms and trilled vocal melodies hark back to tried and tested traditional Country song writing, expressing grief, sorrow and heartbreak. Although lacking life experience, Lucy takes her own emotional turmoil and communicates it through gripping lyrical content and storytelling. "One cannot help but wonder where some of those lyrics are coming from, she's obviously another 'old soul' with a huge talent for expressive song writing."

After a great start to 2017 supporting her fellow peers Morganway & Sam Coe & The Long Shadows, Lucy went on to play a host of UK Festivals including Glastonbury, Red Rooster and Latitude. Accompanied by a sold out show in Norwich, Lucy released her debut EP '18 Miles' in November 2017, winning 'Best UK EP of the Year' and being named 'one to watch' by Belles and Gals. "Listening to Lucy, you really get the feeling that this is an artist who is doing it her way - its Country, with a touch of Folk, without ever feeling the need to conform 100% to either." Currently in the UK for Country Music Week, Alabama born Drake White is certainly making waves on the US Country scene. His latest single ‘Girl In Pieces’ is an infectious slice of Country Rock from this very talented singer-songwriter. One of the stand-out artists from C2C in 2017, Nashville based Drake is heading back with his band to the O2 Greenwich in March 2019 in a super Sunday line-up, which includes Chris Stapleton and Ashley McBryde.

With her debut album ‘Wherever I Go’ released on the 26th October, it’s a very exciting time for Jersey born singer-songwriter Frankie Davies. This highly anticipated album encapsulates Frankie’s journey and experiences over the last four years.

With performances at C2C, CMA Fest and BBC Introducing in Nashville and tours with Maddie & Tae, Chris Young, Charlie Worsham, Mo Pitney, The Shires and Ward Thomas, the future is looking very bright for Frankie and her music.

LCM #SongOfTheDay - ‘Nothing Else’ - Angus and Julia Stone

We are ‘down under’ today as we take a quick trip to Sydney the home of Australian brother and sister duo Angus & Julia Stone. The beautiful and reflective ‘Nothing Else’ is the new single from their latest album ‘Snow’, released in September last year. We think that It has a real Fleetwood Mac vibe.

'Snow' continues a process the siblings began at the suggestion of producer Rick Rubin on their self-titled album of 2014. "That was the first time that we actually started writing together, in the same room, and I guess we took a leaf from that chapter into this record. This time round though, every song on the record we wrote together" Angus says. The Sydney-born siblings produced and largely engineered it themselves, in Angus's cottage studio, Belafonte, in the Byron Bay hinterland. "It was quite magical because Angus and I have never spent that much time together, just the two of us," says Julia. "There's always at least an engineer or tour manager but the last phase of writing and recording was just eight weeks of him and me and the quiet of the land. It was a beautiful time."
