At Last - Etta James (1960)
There are some songs and singers which are totally amazing, Sometimes if you're very lucky the two come together and then the magic really happens. Our LCM Friday Classic is one of those times. First released in November 1960 as the title track of Etta James's debut studio album, 'At Last' is well....timeless and stunning. It has a great string and bass section too.
Etta is regarded as having bridged the gap between rhythm and blues and rock and roll. She won six Grammy Awards and 17 Blues Music Awards. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, the Blues Hall of Fame in 2001, and the Grammy Hall of Fame in both 1999 and 2008. Rolling Stone magazine ranked James number 22 on its list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time and number 62 on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists.
