Cloudbroke - Georgia Ruth
Our next LCM featured artist is an award-winning Welsh singer-songwriter originally from Aberystwyth but now based in Cardiff. The very talented Georgia Ruth released her highly anticipated second album 'Fossil Scale' last month and our LCM #TrackOfTheDay is one of the lead singles the very interesting and sublime 'Cloudbroke'.
Georgia is heading to London on the 2nd February headlining at the Servant Jazz Quarters in Dalston. She is great live, so definitely worth making a date in your diaries and going along.
Her debut album Week of Pines (produced by David Wrench) – won the Welsh Music Prize 2013-14 and she was nominated in the 2014 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Steve Lamacq named her his “Favourite New Band” on BBC 6Music, after she won his Rebel Playlist and she appeared as a guest on the show. She also performed a live session for Lauren Laverne’s BBC 6Music Morning Show. Georgia appeared as a guest vocalist on ‘Divine Youth’, a song on the Manic Street Preachers’ Futurology album in 2014 (the album reached no.2 on the Official UK Album Chart).
Georgia has toured extensively in India over the last couple of years, both as a member of Ghazalaw (whose debut album was released on Cerys Matthews’ Marvels of the Universe label in 2015) and as part of the British Council’s Folk Nations project. She also performed in Vietnam for the British Council, both in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
She presents a weekly music show on BBC Radio Cymru and can sometimes be heard covering for Bethan Elfyn on BBC Radio Wales.
