Dolly Said No To Elvis - Mark Nevin
Our LCM featured artist today is London based multi award winning singer-songwriter Mark Nevin. Mark has had a wonderful career in music, first founding Fairground Attraction (he wrote the award winning 'Perfect') and later Sweetmouth with Brian Kennedy. He also had songs recorded by Morrissey, Carleen Anderson, Kirsty MacColl and David Bowie among others and co-wrote with Carole King. Mark has recently released a great new four track EP and our LCM #SongOfTheDay is the title track. It's based on the wonderful true story of when 'Dolly Said No To Elvis' accompanied by a new animated video. Mark starts his UK Tour today in Birmingham. Catch him if you can.
'Dolly Said No To Elvis' tells the true story of how Elvis’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker, approached a very young Dolly Parton about Elvis Presley recording her song 'I Will Always Love You'. Of course she was thrilled, until it was made clear that she would be expected to hand over half of her songwriting royalties to The King. She said: “Sorry Elvis, not 50 per cent, not 20, not 10 per cent, not any, even one is one too many, thou shalt not have a penny.”
