Mountain Wild - Silvi Vignola
It's exciting times ahead as our next LCM featured artist is releasing her debut album shortly. London based Silvi Vignola is much travelled, her inherent wanderlust is key to her debut single and our LCM #SongOfTheDay the lovely ethereal "Mountain Wild", which is also the title track of her debut album.
If you would to catch Silvi live in London she will be at Ryan's on 25/1, The Harrison on 9/2 and The Monarch on 28/3.
The song like the rest of the album was written in the Anti Atlas mountains of Morocco where Silvi lived for two years, deliberately choosing this monastic setting in order to write what she perceived as something pure that was only influenced by her surroundings. She has since spent intermittent periods of time travelling the globe, East to West and North to South, taking pieces of each place with her. Some places left a deeper mark than others, one being the North of England where she spent longer periods and picked up on Folk traditions, music and finger picking styles.
The nine songs on the album have echoes of her travels, there is a sense of geography in all of them both physical but also of the human condition. Upon hearing the songs one can notice a setting to each track, a deliberate attempt to transport the listeners to a time and place creating a stronger experience which goes above words and music. She has an acute lyrical eye and whittles her songs down to the bone so that their meaning is evident.
Her music takes us to a somewhat familiar place and then beyond that, where we dream both of roads less travelled and the places we have left behind. Her voices also references the past but is also most defiantly of the now. Playing most of the instruments on the album in keeping with its autobiographical content she conveys both musically and lyrically her need to be constantly on the move while being entirely rooted in the earth...
