The Joke - Brandi Carlile
Our next LCM featured artist Brandi Carlile has always been a firm favourite. She is super songwriter and vocalist, so it is always thrilling when she releases new music Our LCM #SongOfTheDay is the anthemic, personal and heartfelt 'The Joke', the lead single from Brandi latest sixth album 'By The Way, I Forgive You. The album was co-produced by the excellent Dave Cobb and Shooter Jennings
Brandi using the song as a beacon of hope to those who feel like outcasts and outsiders, those who are bullied for being different, particularly in regards to their sexual orientation. It’s meant to provide hope for people who are told what they can’t do. That there isn't any difference between what men and woman are capable of doing. It is coupled with a strong but subtle political message as well
“Let ‘em laugh while they can… I have been to the movies, I’ve seen how it ends. And the joke’s on them.” There is a great hope in the choruses in contrast the verses, which depict just how difficult it can be growing up can be for some, reminding everyone that they have so much to offer to the world and a ton of untapped potential in order to see that through.
