Joey Landreth - I Can't Win
LCM Song Of The Day: ‘I Can’t Win’ - Joey Landreth
We head to the Canadian prairies today to sunny Winnipeg to meet our next LCM featured artist JUNO award winning Joey Landreth. You might remember Joey from the great band The Brothers Landreth. Our featured track today is a wonderful live version of ‘i Can’t Win’ taken from a Layman session recorded last year. Watch out for his sophomore solo album ‘Hindsight’ due for release on April 19th.
Joey and the band are currently on an UK and European tour with their London date at The Garage on May 8th. Special guests are Roman P Clarke and LCM favourites The Accidentals.
Winnipeg’s Joey Landreth muses about his new album, ‘Hindsight’, co-written and co-produced with Roman Clarke. Due to be released via Joey’s own label imprint Birthday Cake (The Orchard/Sony), and Cadence Music in Canada, the album is a collection of songs that explore ideas about learning from mistakes, letting go, forgiveness, and growing up. "It wouldn’t be a Landreth record without some heartbreak!”
Joey Landreth’s music has taken him around the world many times. His break-out project as one half of JUNO Award winning roots-rockers The Bros. Landreth, took a short break after their acclaimed album ‘Let It Lie’ kept them on the road for 4 years. The time-off afforded Joey the opportunity to tackle new creative challenge, and in 2017, he released his debut solo album ‘Whiskey’. It was an extension of The Bros. Landreth’s brand of eclectic, lush, and deeply meaningful songs, but accentuated and amplified by Joey Landreth’s dynamic guitar stylings. Guitar stylings that have been celebrated by the likes of Premiere Guitar, That Pedal Show, and Guitarist Magazine. The album and subsequent touring earned rave reviews from critics and fans, showcasing Joey Landreth as a songwriter, vocalist, musician, and performer in his own right.
For his latest creative pursuit, Joey teamed up with rising star and talented multi- instrumentalist, Roman Clarke. “His sensibilities are so different than my own. He has taken me places I would not normally go. Hindsight is a collection of songs that represent what it sounds like to mash Roman Clarke’s musical brain with mine”, says Landreth. Recorded over the course of a year between Lincoln Country Social Club Studio in Toronto, and Stereobus Recording in Winnipeg, the music found on Hindsight is not a radical departure; it's simply a broadening of horizons and an exercise in personal and creative growth.
Eager to hit the road with this new material, Joey is thrilled to have Roman and other world- class musicians joining him for much of the upcoming album release touring, which includes solo and band dates all over the UK, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Canada, and the USA. It promises to be a wonderful opportunity to hear the next stage in the evolution of a truly remarkable artist, one who possesses the rare ability to connect to people through his melodies, lyrics, and spellbinding performances.
