Jess Morgan is another of our favourite singer-songwriters who is beginning to receive the accolades and attention she deserves after years of hard work and touring. Jess has been an independent musician from the start of her career and has successfully crowd funded many of her previous albums. Jess was rightly nominated as '2014 Female vocalist of the year' by FATEA.
Jess is busy making a name for herself as a force to be reckoned with in contemporary indie-folk music. Expect bold, inventive songs which are peppered with influence from British and American Folk as well as country, blues and world music. Jess is an artist who is out there seeing the world, pushing it through her pen and into her music. Expect cinematic, inventive songs with wild stories and bold themes from this young British singer-songwriter as well as the steely nerve of an artist carving a name for herself both as writer of touching contemporary folk songs but a performer who stands out from the pack.
2014 saw the release of her excellent ‘Langa Langa’ album which was a colourful burst of vibrant songs driven by a rhythmic and sensitive guitar-work and vocals which are both warm and distinctive. Jess' take on songwriting, musicianship and delivery have won her praise as “something truly special” (Folk Radio UK) and hearty thumbs up from the BBC Radio 2 Folk Show with Mark Radcliffe, Bob Harris Sunday, Tom Robinson’s BBC 6 Mixtape, The Steve Lamacq Show, BBC Wales, BBC Scotland and BBC Northern Ireland.
Langa Langa is a beautiful high quality album from start to finish. One of our favourite songs on the album was the lovely 'Freckles in the Sun' with backing vocals supplied by another of our favourite vocalists Sarah Howells from Paper Aeroplanes.
Jess has released a brand new EP and was thrilled to unveil ‘The Bournemouth EP’ at The Green Note in Camden, London on 18th June 2015.
Songs from Langa Langa as well as Jess Morgan’s previous independent releases helped to win her attention at the 2015 Folk Alliance International conference in Kansas City. Jess attended and showcased at FAI after a month long US road-trip where she also played shows in New York and Nashville. Jess Morgan will be touring in 2015 throughout the UK and in Europe and performing Ely Folk Festival, Warwick Folk Festival, Folk by the Oak, Festival At The Edge and The London Folk Festival.
